The full G road test is the final step in Ontario's graduated licensing system, and unlike the G2 it includes highway or higher-speed driving. Below is the actual G road test route from the Windsor DriveTest centre at 2470 Dougall Avenue, plus the G route at the Chatham DriveTest centre. Watch the walkthrough for your centre and practise the highway sections (merging, lane changes at speed, and following distance) until they feel routine.

What the Windsor G route covers

The G road test builds on everything from the G2 and adds higher-speed driving. On the Windsor route that means getting onto a faster road, merging with traffic, changing lanes at speed, and keeping a safe following distance, along with city driving sections near the Dougall Avenue centre. The Chatham G route includes two highway sections, so it is excellent practice for confident merging and lane changes.

Common G fail points

  • Merging too slowly or stopping on the on-ramp
  • Not checking blind spots before highway lane changes
  • Following the vehicle ahead too closely at speed
  • Driving too far below the flow of traffic
  • Drifting within the lane instead of holding a steady position

Test centre locations: Windsor DriveTest is at 2470 Dougall Avenue, Windsor, ON. Chatham DriveTest is at 171 Keil Drive South, Chatham, ON.
