Understanding Ontario's Graduated Licensing System

Published on

Ontario's Graduated Licensing System (GLS) is designed to help new drivers gain the necessary skills and experience to drive safely. At Rajput Driving School Windsor, we guide our students through each stage of the GLS. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the system and how we can help you navigate it successfully.

1. The G1 License

The first step in the GLS is obtaining your G1 license. This involves passing a written knowledge test that covers the rules of the road and traffic signs. With a G1 license, you must always drive with a fully licensed driver in the passenger seat and adhere to certain restrictions.

2. The G2 License

After holding your G1 license for at least 12 months (or 8 months if you complete an approved driver education course), you can take the G2 road test. The G2 license allows you to drive independently, but with some restrictions, such as a zero blood alcohol level and passenger limits for drivers under 19.

3. The Full G License

To obtain your full G license, you must pass a second road test after holding your G2 license for at least 12 months. This test assesses your ability to drive on highways and in more complex driving situations. With a full G license, you have no driving restrictions.

4. Benefits of the GLS

The GLS helps new drivers gain experience gradually, reducing the risk of accidents. It also provides a structured learning process, ensuring that drivers are well-prepared for the challenges of the road.
